Transplant question

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Feb 03, 2005 1:58 am

My dad has just been diagnosed with CRF and his kidneys have shrunk by 60%. He is 80 years old.
At what point will he have to start dialysis, and is it possible for an 80 year old to get a kidney transplant?
Thank you for your help and advice! gbrum1 in TX, USA

Sorry to hear about your father, and there are too many variables for anyone but the nephrology's to decide when dialysis should be started, and if he can accept a transplant, I do know that Heart Condition plays the biggest role.

I'm looking for an active forum to compile information for my book project as I have Alport's Syndrome and my kidneys failed in 1987, transplanted in 88 and back to original equipment in 98.

My Mother passed from it in 2000 and my Daughter's kidneys are fine and always will be ;) as long as the alports she has minds his manors or we can go find him in gene form soon.

So I have a whole lot to say already, but I like adding voices from dialysis patients because everyone has a different way of doing the run.

Please let me Know how he's doing as it is 4 months later right.
