single kidney renal artey stenosis

Post a new topicby Mick on Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:24 pm

I am a 48 year old male born with a single right kidney. I only discovered recently I have one kidney and this was due to the onset of a right hand side acute abdominal pain and subsequent diagnosis of FMD severe renal artery stenosis (more than 70 % obstruction). This was followed by acute renal failure of the single kidney which with non invasive intervention was halted at 40% GFR. I am told I have no chance of Stenting due to the critical nature of the collapse of the inner walls of the renal artery, and the delicate nature of the remaining outer wall due to "bubbling" (5) in all. This has resulted in compromised renal function and the release of the hormone renin and consequently resulted in Vascular hypertension BP after hypertensive drugs, fluid tablets, beta blockers and an array of other medications has my BP at 160/110- 180/115 It is noted without these medications my BP sits x 200+/130.
My doctors inform me that I am NOT a candidate for stenting or any other invasive procedure as any invasion would result in death. I am wondering if there is anybody who might be able to enlighten me further to any known procedure for people in my predicament which might assist there position.
I would be forever greatful for any advice, knowledge etc with regards to my situation
Many thanks Mick
