Cyst/Calcification questionFive months ago I had a sudden severe pain in my upper right abdomen. I went to the doctor and he suspected gallstones and sent me for an ultrasound. The Ultrasound tech said they saw something on my right kidney that didn't quite look like a stone, but she couldn't tell. Later that day the doctor called to tell me I had a kidney stone and to drink lots of water and walk and it will pass. I am continuing to have back pain as well as right upper abdomen pain. I went to a new pcp last week and she ordered a CT Scan without contrast. The report came back and said I have 4 mm cortical calcification with associated cortical thinning. It is my choice to either have another ultrasound or just live with the off and on discomfort.
I have a family history of kidney cancer on both sides of my family. Two female cousins, one died at age 36. I am 47. Is this something I should be concerned about? At least twice a day I get uncomfortable to varying degrees. The past two weeks I have also started experiencing what feels like a UTI .. the sensation of having to urinate even after I just did. The urine test came back negative for infection. Sorry for the long first post. I was hoping someone who experienced this could give me some advice. (My apologies of this is the wrong forum to post this.) -Mary
